Music Notes. 7 Online Tips
There are countless tips to share with artists in navigating social media and the ever evolving music business. It's a different game for everyone, but remember that you are the captain of your own ship regardless of how much you may choose delegate to others.
Though I am speaking primarily to veteran artists, some of these may be helpful to a broader range.
1. Create your personalized online plan.
2. Define your goals, short and long term.
3. Sign up for services like Giga and Social Mention Alerts to see what's being said about your brand and music, making sure to keep a thick skin and sense of humor. This is particularly helpful if you're promoting new music - if you're only seeing comments about your old material you'll know your message and new endeavors are not getting across.
4. Develop new fans, and know who they are.
5. Ask questions from your audience when appropriate and listen to feedback.
6. Re-educate older fans on what you've if they've been out of the loop.
7. Research. Redefine. Revise. Refresh.
