Summer Trend 2010: Espadrilles

I've had an ongoing love affair with espadrilles since high school. My Mom had a denim pair that I took over and wore until they fell apart.
The new look espadrille is more stylish and available at every price point.

In My Beauty Bag: Shu Uemura

Allergies, travel, or sleep deprivation often result in puffy eyes for me. Some people deal with fine lines, I deal with 'puffiness' occasionally. I first learned about these eye masks from one of my favorite make-up artists, and was hooked. I keep them in my travel bag and home beauty arsenal, where I usually keep them in the refrigerator. Relax with them chilled over the eyes, candles burning with soft music playing for a home spa experience. Divine.

Step Out In Style: Christian Louboutin and John Varvatos

I can't get enough of the Christian Louboutin Studded Engine Spiked Heel. Perhaps it's the modernized hint of the 80's punk aesthetic that appeals to me. I'd wear these with a classic black dress or would funk them up with jeans or leggings. I adore that there's also a men's version of the shoe.

Designer John Varvatos beautifully uses the Pro Leather Hi silhouette for his Converse exclusive. The design is a classy option for men who desire a less casual sneaker.

Summer Trend 2010: Draping

I adore the elegance of draping. This season you can find the very flattering look on blouses, tops, skirts and of course dresses.

Music Notes. Mark de Clive-Lowe featuring Jody Watley

Review:
Every diva on the planet should be sending out an APB to track down Mark de Clive-Lowe and hold him hostage in the studio for a few hours. More than any other producer in House, he has an uncanny ability to play to their strengths and the creativity to give them just the right canvas to work on. With a few exceptions I can no longer remember but which must be there somewhere, I don't think Jody Watley has ever sounded better. "Get down down down down down" is as old as the Blues, but the lyric just works so well with the cacophony of instruments MdCL has put together that it sounds like you're hearing it for the first time.
In Strictly style, a more commercial remix is offered up by Ralvero which to be honest probably doesn't belong on here. So much electro these days just sounds like the same - like what George Clinton said about the death of commercial disco: "It all had one beat. You can't make love the same way every time you do it." Pass on it in favor of Mark de Clive-Lowe's own remix, which is rooted in that gorgeous urban soul sound he's made his own. [ - Terry M. - ]

I Like His Style. Kobe Bryant

Because the NBA Finals begin with one of the biggest rivalries in pro basketball The Boston Celtics against the current champions Los Angeles Lakers. Because my son attended one of his basketball camps and he was so personable to all of the kids. Because Kobe Bryant is a total warrior and a completely relentless competitor on the court. Because he's got that Michael Jordan sex appeal and swagger. Because he is "The Black Mamba" and I love when he closes out a game, I like his style.
Go Lakers.

Gwen Stefani Covers InStyle

I've always liked Gwen Stefani's natural sense of personal style. There's "fashion" and then there's "style". Style isn't about designer labels, professional stylists creating looks or following trends to the letter. Style can be an inner confidence and more about knowing what works for you and making it your own, at least that's always been my own personal philosophy.

Nature's Beauty: Edamame

Edamame (pronounced ed-a-ma-may) is a good addition to a healthy lifestyle. This baby soybean is a complete protein, rich in fiber and essential fatty acids, and isoflavones, found only in soy. I enjoy eating this popular Japanese vegetable in salads, or separately as a healthy snack.

Music Notes. Ali "Ollie" Woodson

Wishing a peaceful journey to Ali 'Ollie' Woodson who lost his battle with cancer. Ollie had a memorable voice full of soul and pure grit, and came from an era of adult male singers that I'm unsure will ever exist again in popular music.

Successfully stepping into the role of lead singer during the 80's and 90's with the already established legendary group The Temptations, Ollie added his signature sound on the memorable hit single "Treat Her Like A Lady", and other recordings which brought the group back into the spotlight for a new generation. Ollie was truly one of R&B's finest and most distinguished voices, and continued to record as a solo artist.

I was thrilled when I learned Ollie was adding his vocal touch to my recording of "Heaven Help Us All" from Time Life's "Songs 4 Worship: Soul" collection.

Rest in Peace Ali "Ollie" Woodson. My prayers and condolences to his family, friends and those who knew him best.

Spring Summer Trend 2010: Florals

A summer dress, whether it be maxi or short is always good for the wardrobe. Though I'm more of a solids girl, I like these very feminine floral Stella McCartney dresses from her Spring 2010 Ready To Wear Collection.

Chanel Iman Opens "The Red Bag Boutique"

One of my favorite young models, the beautiful Chanel Iman and her mother China Robinson recently opened "The Red Bag Boutique" in Los Angeles. I can't wait to do some browsing and shopping there. The store boasts an eclectic blend of vintage and new pieces, sounds like my kind of place.
