Ralph Lauren Celebrates With 4-D Light Installation

This seems like a pretty spectacular way for designer Ralph Lauren to celebrate the 10th anniversary of it's U.S. e-commerce business and the launch of its e-commerce site in the UK. I would have loved to see this in person this past Wednesday.

Nature's Beauty. Echinacea

I've taken echinacea for years but was surprised to learn it's origins are in the flowering daisy family.
Being cold and flu season, it's a good idea to keep the natural remedy in your cupboard or medicine cabinet. If you choose the liquid form make sure it's alcohol free.
I keep echinacea tea in the house as well as the capsule form. It's great to take if you feel might be coming down with a cold, flu or sore throat (add a bit of goldenseal). Additionally, the herb is also beneficial for other ailments such as urinary tract infections, gum disease and tonsillitis.

Art and Fashion. KENZO

If you love coffee table art books as much as I do, Japanese designer Kenzo released this month by Rizzoli should make it's way into the list of must have collectibles. The book showcases in a most artistic and creative presentation, over 40 years of the Paris based design house founded by Kenzo Takada. The fabric cover is the first monograph of the designer and available in three different patterns. I'm intrigued by the features of the book which includes double sided double gate folds which fold out to the equivalent of eight pages, accordion gate folds that fold out to five pages, and a pop-up according to Rizzoli that "evokes the romantic textiles, envelopes and paper craft for which the house's fashion collection invitation's are known."

Individual Style. Japan

No one does eclectic style as brilliant and effortless as the Japanese in my opinion. The kids don't dress to 'trend', they dress to suit their own personal style and expression and I love that.

Notes. Project Runway Finale Thoughts

I was underwhelmed overall with the season finale of Project Runway. I don't know if it's just me but I expected more of each designer.
Although I could see the trend appeal of Gretchen's designs and despite my disdain for her personality, she did create some 'cute' pieces and jewelry. But to emerge as the overall winner of Project Runway - I didn't see it. Mondo's collection was my favorite. Good luck to them all.

Looking forward to Bravo's "The Fashion Show" with Iman and Isaac Mizrahi.

Notes. Project Runway Season 8 Finale

Design. Mondo

Mondo and Michael Costello in one of the best moments of the season.

I must admit I've found season 8 of Project Runway designers a bit lackluster. It's also taken some getting used to with the show being on Lifetime and not Bravo. With that said, I'm still a fan of  Heidi Klum, Nina Garcia, Michael Kors and the show itself as one of the best in reality TV.

This season I grew to really like Michael Costello and was so sad to see him go last week.  His departure had me reaching for the Kleenex feeling his extreme disappointment. He seemed like such a humble person despite the numerous daggers he endured from fellow cast mates and his workmanship was always better than he was given credit for by the competing designers. The drama was the pull of the season and perhaps that was intended but the extra half hour wasn't needed. There was another episode where Mondo discussed his HIV status and relationship with his Mom that also made me emotional. Had Michael made it to Bryant Park it would have been priceless just to see Gretchen's face when he walked through the door declaring "I made it."

My pick to win it is Mondo, although his designs are a bit kitsch, I like the way he uses color and mixes bold patterns. On top of that, he was open enough to admit he had misjudged Michael as a designer and a person.

Nature's Beauty. Salad Worthy

You really can't beat a fresh mixed green salad packed full of natural nutrients, vitamins and antioxidants on your daily menu.  One of my favorites to prepare includes a bit of arugula, tomatoes, avocado, beets and cilantro. I made my own balsamic vinagrette dressing and dashed a bit of cracked pepper on top.
